Psalm 66:4 “All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.” (English Standard Version)
What is praise and worship to the Lord? Think for a minute what your praise and worship looks like to the Lord. Is it about you and what God has done or not done for you? Is praising God on your time or when you feel like praising Him? Or, like our fleshly self defaults to, is praising God something we do when things are good, but not necessarily when things are bad?
Psalm 66 is a call for all creation to praise and worship the Lord. Praise is not about a feeling or even a circumstance. Do not misunderstand, when God moves miraculously in our lives, all the glory is His, and He should be praised; He is worthy of it all. But that should not be our heart posture before the Lord. All of creation does not have feelings, yet they praise Him. Jesus tells the Pharisees in Luke 19:40 that if the disciples were to stop praising Him, the very stones would cry out!
Creation was made to worship and praise the Lord. After all, it is His. When we sing to the Lord, we are also singing with the angels all around us. Revelation 5:13 says, “And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, ‘To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” Praise and worship should come out of us automatically, no matter the circumstance, because God is who He is. He is “I AM.” The name of the Lord reveals his entire character, his everlasting faithfulness, and his very presence is worthy to be praised. Praising the one true God declares truth about who He is and what He has done (ZETETIC, LLC, n.d.). Exodus 15:11 says, “Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?” The answer is: No one! What if God never does another thing in your life? Is he still worthy of praise?
God is worthy of praise because of his great works that have already been done. He created everything; seen and unseen. He has redeemed us back to himself and one day will restore everything back to its goodness.
Psalm 150 tells us where and how to praise the Lord; in his sanctuary, in his mighty firmament, for his mighty acts and excellent greatness. (v 1-2) How do we praise God? With timbrels and dancing, and stringed instruments, and everything that has breath! (v.3-6).
Our praise and worship flow from our hearts, from having a personal relationship with the one true God. He is worthy of all the praise for making you, blessing you, saving you, and bringing you to restoration. What is your relationship with YahWeh? Rejoice in Him, boast in Him, and enter into his gates with thanksgiving. Sing with all of creation on earth and in heaven, of all his mighty deeds.
Be blessed and bless His Holy name.
